Youth Hockey Partnerships

The creation of CYAH will lead to a stronger partnership with the RYHA.  The partnership will stimulate growth and bring unity to the youth and amateur community.

The RYHA - Raleigh Youth Hockey Association - is a non-profit hockey program servicing the Triangle for the 20th season.  They offer Instructional hockey, house league and travel programs to boys and girls aged preschool through 18.  The coaches, managers and board of directors consist of dedicated parent volunteers whose goal is to ensure that the kids have fun playing ice hockey.  For more information on the RYHA, visit

Some facts about CYAH and RYHA:
  • The CYAH mark will be seen on all levels of RYHA in some form, from house leagues and beginner programs through Tier I AAA.
  • The Carolina Hurricanes will be outfitting the Tier I teams with Carolina Hurricanes jerseys.  This will mark the first time, other than the pee-wee Junior Hurricanes Quebec team, that the Hurricanes jersey and name will be worn by a youth hockey organization.
  • CYAH will host an end-of-the-year banquet for RYHA members to honor individual and team achievements.  This will provide a tangible reminder to each child of the camaraderie and friendship that the sport of hockey can offer them.
  • The Junior Hurricanes AAA RYHA team will be the highest-level team ever formed in a Triangle-based program utilizing mainly Triangle-based players.  The Junior Hurricanes will compete at the highest international youth level and expect to be competitive in their first year.
  • A new organization and board has been formed to oversee the Tier I program.  This board includes former Carolina Hurricanes Captain Ron Francis as an advisor to the board, Hurricanes Youth and Amateur Hockey Coordinator Paul Strand as director of hockey, former NHL goaltender Rich Shulmistra as director at large, local businessman Jeff Maness as president and RYHA liaison David Wright as vice-president.
